AutoFlow Automatic Balancing Trouble Shooting Installation and Operation
Problem: Low Water Flow
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Strainer clogged1Back-flush or manually clean the coil strainer.
2Wrong location2Make sure the valve is in the proper location with the correct GPM.
3Low system pressure3If possible, check the pressure at the hook-up supply and return valves. The drop through the coil and ATC valve may be too large for the available head.
4Balance valve plugged4The AutoFlow valve may have debris. Remove cartridge, clean and replace.
5ATC valve port closed or wrong Cv5Make sure the ATC is wide open and has proper Cv.
6System valve is partially closed6Open all manual system valves.
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Wrong location1Make sure the valve is in the proper location with the correct GPM.
2System pressure too high2Check the differential pressure across the AutoFlow valve. If larger then 32 psi, close the return-side ball valve until the difference is less then 32 psi. The spring range on the cartridge could be changed to 5-60 psi which will also solve the problem.
3AutoFlow valve backward3Check the flow arrow and reverse valve if necessary.
Problem: Noise or Vibration
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1AutoFlow valve clicking or noisyaCheck the Delta P across the AutoFlow valve. If at or near the
maximum, it may be necessary to replace the cartridge with a
different spring range.
bMake sure the air is purged from the system. Air can cause a
clicking noise. WS valves require air purging on each side of the mid-plate.
cTwo AutoFlow valves close coupled in series can cause pulsing.
FlowSet Manual Balancing Trouble Shooting Installation and Operation
Problem: D.P. Gauge Reading Zero or Very Low
1Valves closed on hoses or gauge1Open all high & low impulse line valves
.
2Zeroing manifold valve is open2Close by-pass or zero valve.
3High & low impulse hoses reversed3Switch hoses.
4Impulse ports clogged4Clean out P/T port or pressure ports.
5No water flow5Make sure pipeline valves are open.
6Defective D.P. meter6Use another meter or verify with the difference in gaug
pressure readings on each port.
7Beta ratio too high or wrong model used7Verify flow using D.P. across the wide-open ATC valve. Also check tag & location numbers.
Problem: D.P. Gauge Reading Too High
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Circuit unbalanced1Reduce flow by slowly closing ball or butterfly valve in the circuit.
2Valve is closed on the low-pressure impulse line
2Open all impulse lines.
3Low (downstream) pressure or P/T port clogged
3Clean ports.
4Wrong product placed in circuit4Check model, tag and location number.
Coil Hook-up (Placeholder) Trouble Shooting Installation and Operation
Problem: Low Water Flow
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Strainer Clogged1Back-flush or manually clean the coil strainer.
2Wrong Location2Make sure the hose kit is in the proper location with the correct GPM.
3System Pressure is Low3If possible, check the pressure at the hose kit supply and return valves. The drop through the coil and hose kit may be too large for the available head. The total pressure drop through the hose kit can be determined with catalog F016.
4Balance Valve is Plugged4The AutoFlow valve may have debris. Remove cartridge, clean and replace.
VersaFlow Hose Kit Trouble Shooting Installation and Operation
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Wrong Location1Make sure the hose kit is in the proper location with the correct GPM.
2Improper Balance of Manual Valve2Measure the flow through the AccuSetter venturi and re-ballance the coil.
3System Pressure is too High3Check the differential pressure across the AutoFlow valve. If larger than 32 psi, close the return side ball valve until the difference is less than 32 psi. The spring range on the cartridge could be changed to 5 - 60 which will also solve the problem.
4AutoFlow Valve is Backward4Check the flow arrow and reverse the valve if necessary.
Problem: Noise or Vibration
Possible Cause Possible Solution
1Solenoid Shut-off Valve is causing "Water Hammer"1The solenoid valve may be closing too quickly, causing water
hammer. Use a slower acting valve.
2Water Noise2Check the hose kit size versus the ASHRAE recommended sizes in Catalog F016. Use a larger size if necessary.
3AutoFlow valve is Clicking and Noisy3Check the Delta P across the regulator and it may be necessary to replace the cartridge with a different spring range.
3aMake sure the air is purged from the system. Air can cause a clicking noise.
